Kees Wieringa graduated at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He studied under respectively Gerben Makkes van der Deyl, Edith Lateiner-Grosz, Willem Brons and Jan Marisse Huizing. At the Berlagecompetition in 1988 he was one of the prizewinners with piano music by Jakob van Domselaer. He performed national and international concerts: in many European countries, Turkey, Indonesia, India, The United States and Japan. In 1991, Kees Wieringa made his debut in London, New York and Djakarta. In 1994, he performed concerts in The United States (e.g. Carnegie Hall) and Russia with the last Beethoven-sonata. Kees Wieringa also contributed to radio and television programmes. He was visiting lecturer at Princeton University, New York University and some conservatories in Russia. As a pianist, Kees Wieringa participated in various festivals, such as the ‘Festival New Music’ in Middelburg, the ‘Festival Old Music’ in Utrecht and the Bang on a Can Festival in New York. During the 'Ferienkurse' in Darmstadt 1992, he was a member of the piano forum and gave a few concerts. Meanwhile, compact discs have been published with piano music from Simeon ten Holt, with music from the avant-garde composer Morton Feldman, piano music by Jakob van Domselaer and chamber music by Jacob ter Veldhuis and Daniel Ruyneman As a solist, Kees Wieringa performed with many orchestras. He played with the Residentie Orkest, the Radio Symfonieorkest, the Balletorkest and the Noord-Nederlands Orkest. Many composers dedicated compositions to him. Kees Wieringa forms a duo with cellist René Berman. They won the first prize at the Orpheus competition in Belgium in 1991. He also takes an active part in theatre projects of theatre maker Moos d'Herripon. At the moment, Kees Wieringa also works as a composer and radio and television maker.
